FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get there?
Drive in or fly in.
For any self driving guests, the reserve is made up of dirt roads, however a VW Polo or alike is more than able to drive to any of the units. We are 30 minutes north of Hoedspruit, and +- 6 hours from Johannesburg / Tswane.
If you fly in, we provide and organise any transfers and shuttles required from Eastgate Airport in Hoedspruit. Vehicles can also be hired from the Airport.
Helicopters may also land on the Bushveld Bivouac premises - please confirm any bookings with reservations.
What is the condition of the roads?
The main road from gate to camp is navigable by 2-wheel sedan cars, with sufficient clearance, in the dry season. If there is a personal worry about negotiating the roads there is under cover parking near the gate and the Duty manager will gladly take you up to your site.
What activities are available in the area?
Hoedspruit and the surrounding area has some world renowned activities and experiences including the Kruger National Park and Panorama Route. It offers a biodiversity of activities from site seeing, to safari experiences and even adrenaline sports such as quad biking and horse riding. Please contact reservations and they will happily assist you with booking your dream itinerary.
Is there a spa?
At Bushveld Bivouac, we offer a more personalised alternative to a traditional spa. While we do not have a dedicated spa facility, we provide professional in-room massage treatments. A qualified therapist comes directly to your room, allowing you to enjoy your treatment in complete privacy and comfort. Surrounded by the sights and sounds of the bush, the experience becomes more than a massage — it’s a peaceful, immersive moment in nature.
Do you offer food?
Yes, we offer a range of catering options to suit your stay. You can choose to be fully catered, partially catered, or entirely self-catered. If you decide you would like breakfast - or any meal - prepared for you during your stay, simply let us know. We will deliver your meal directly to your room so you can enjoy it in comfort and at your own pace.
For more details, please visit our Cuisine page or contact Reservations to enquire about our current menu options.
Are there opportunities to exercise at Bushveld Bivouac?
Definitely! One of our biggest boasts is that guests are able to walk, jog or trail bike on our prepared trails or roads, most of which have a place to sit in the shade if you should want to rest and soak up your surrounds.
What room amenities are available?
Please see ‘Luxury Tented Camp’ for a full list of the amenities available at each tent site.
Are swimming towels provided?
Yes, we provide two sets of towels - one for swimming and one for bathing.
Is there covered parking?
There is no covered parking at the tents but guests are welcome to use the covered parking provided near the entrance to the farm, which is about 2 km from the camp.
The Duty Manager can then drive guests to and from their vehicles.
What cleaning services are offered?
All areas of the tent sites will be cleaned daily according to our schedule of a start time of 9.00am, unless guests have specific requests which we will try to accommodate.

To die for!! To the south we have the impressive peaks of the northern tip of the great Drakensburg range with undulating folds of virgin bushveld to the north and the hills of GaMashishimale – the home of the only Lillie cycads (Encephalartos Dyerianus) on the planet.

Is there a shuttle service available?
There are numerous services from Johannesburg to Hoedspruit and locally from the airport. We will obtain a quote on request. The shuttle from Johannesburg can take 6-8 hours and as such we suggest either flying into Hoedspruit Eastgate Airport or hiring a car from Johannesburg. If you fly into Hoedspruit we will gladly assist you with a transfer to Bushveld Bivouac.
Is Bushveld Bivouac in a malaria area?
Yes, we are, but considered a low-risk zone. Mosquito repellent is provided in each bedroom tent and we suggest long sleeves and trousers at dawn and dusk. If you are concerned, please speak to a doctor about a prophylactic prescription.
Is there a safe available?
We do not have safes in the tents.
Is there a town nearby for shopping?
We are approximately 30 kms from Hoedspruit and 45 km from Phalaborwa where there is excellent shopping (as long as it isn’t designer clothing you’re after) and there is a garage across the road with a good range of alcohol and basic groceries.
What about gratuities for the staff?
Gratuities are completely at your own discretion for service you feel warrants them. There is an envelope for this purpose in the leather folder in each unit.
